Morning
Prayer
Psalms 6
The psalmist is sick and calls on God for deliverance.
The illness is severe and the psalmist is deeply distressed. The psalmist perceives
the illness to be caused by malign forces and fiercely states to them to be
gone, for God has heard the prayers.
Matthew 8: 23 – 34
Jesus is asleep in a boat when a fierce storm blows up
and the disciples are afraid – in fear for their lives. Jesus calms the storm.
Two people, who are afflicted by demons, recognise him
as the Son of God. Jesus sends the evil into a herd of pigs that drown. The
swine herders run off, tell the towns folk who come and beg Jesus to leave
their area.

Evening
Prayer
Isaiah 59: 14 – 21
The community admits that they have rebelled, been
unfaithful and turned away from God. Isaiah states that God then, seeing no human
advocate, comes himself as redeemer, send his spirit to humans and his word to
their lips and to all future generations.
Psalm 5
The psalmist appeals to God to be delivered from
people who lie, boast, and are bloodthirsty and deceitful. These behaviours of
others motivate him to go to worship. He will not retaliate but will leave the
justice to God and instead go to the temple and sing praises.
Romans 3: 22b – 31
Paul proclaims that we who have faith in Jesus are all
redeemed and justified by faith and that we are all subject to the law.
