Morning Prayer

Psalm 118: 1 – 18

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his steadfast love endures forever! The remainder of the psalm tells of God’s assistance and reminds us to put our trust not in people or rulers, but God alone.

Proverbs 31: 10 – 31

This section describes a capable, diligent and wise woman. The writer sates that she ought to be given a share of “the fruit of her hands”.

Luke 7: 11 – 23

Jesus brings a widow’s only son back to life. He begins to be recognised as a great prophet. The disciples of John the Baptist, who at this time is in prison, ask Jesus whether he is the messiah. Jesus asks them to take to John the evidence-based report of his actions

The second psalm is a cry of distress from a person in exile surrounded by enemies.

This section tells the story Jacob’s careful breeding program so that when he left Laban he would have large, healthy flocks of animals.

Faithful God, you are here for us when we call and you have provided us with the capacity to think, plan, and solve problems. Keep us in your grace, guide us when we are confused and distressed and free us from all harm now and forever, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
