Prayer
Psalms 1, 2
This first psalm invites us into the righteous life
and reading of the first five books of the Bible. The second is about the universal
rule of the messiah. The rebellious are warned to submit to the Son of God.
Jeremiah 48: 1 – 13
Jeremiah prophesies destruction of Moab.
Luke 8: 26 – 39
Jesus heals the Gesarene demoniac from a legion of
demons. The demons go into a herd of swine that drown. The people of the area
were afraid and ask Jesus to leave. The healed person proclaimed throughout the
city what Jesus had done.

Holy and
Almighty Lord, you invite us to know you and to follow your commandments and
recognise and love Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Help us today to remember
and proclaim what you have done for us so that we bring glory and honour to you
through Jesus. Amen.

Psalms 3, 4
The first psalm is the plea of someone who is
persecuted for believing and being faithful.
This second psalm is about answered prayer and
faithfulness and not retaliating with evil deeds but keeping ourselves right
with God and trusting always.
Genesis 34
Shechem, the son of the prince of the region rapes
Jacob’s daughter Dinah. He wants to marry her. Jacob waits until his sons
return from the fields. The negotiations are long and it is agreed that Dinah
will become Shechem’s wife and that the people will intermarry provided all the
men are circumcised. Three days later Jacob’s sons sack the city and kill all
the men. Jacob fears long-term retaliation.
2 Timothy 4
Paul’s gives Timothy his final guidance and asks him
to make sure people and some belongings are sent to him. The guidance is:
proclaim the message, persist, convince, rebuke and encourage with utmost
patience in teaching. Be sober, endure suffering, be an evangelist and carry
out your ministry fully.

Great
Lord, we desire to do your work and we know that the world is full of people
who will harm us and hurt those we love. Help us to be faithful, to persist, to
be faithful to you and trust in you so that we can promote your peace and glory
and honour to all the people’s of the world through Jesus Christ. Amen.
