Morning Prayer

Psalm 145: 13 – 21

God is faithful, gracious, upholds people while they are falling, raises up people who are oppressed. God provides as required in time and with justice. God hears, saves and watches us. We will praise the Lord and all living things will bless God forever.

Acts 14: 8 – 18

In Lystra, Paul notices a man who from birth cannot walk listening intently and having faith to be healed. Paul tells him to stand and he is healed. The people decide that Paul and Barnabas must be Greek gods. The priest at the temple of Zeus prepares oxen and brings garlands of flowers. When Paul and Barnabas hear they are so distressed they run into the crowds, tear their clothes, tell them they are mortals, that there is only one God who has allowed the Greeks to live by providing rains in their season and, that the Greek gods are worthless. Even so the crowd can barely be restrained from worshipping them.

Delicate Joyful Morning
Mandurah WA 2014 L Osburn

Our praise and thanks go to you O God who hears, saves and watches us. We thank you for all the blessings you pour on us. May we be so filled with joy that others see our love for you and want to know about you. May they too in faith be able to stand again, healed and free through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Evening Prayer

2 Samuel 7: 18 – 29

This is David’s awe-inspired prayer to God giving thanks for God’s promises, accepting the gift to himself, his family and the people, praising God and articulating that what God has done is for Israel who God loves and has redeemed. David recognises and names the Lord as God.

Psalm 23

The Lord is compared to a shepherd who makes sure the sheep are well pastured, have clean water, are at peace and have nothing to fear. God makes us holy (anoints us) and gives us good things our whole life long even in the valley of the shadow of death and in the presence of enemies.

Ephesians 2: 1 – 10

Paul says we have all in the past followed the lead of whims, breezes, desires and our internal anger. But God shows us mercy and makes us alive again with Christ. By grace we have been saved and blessed. It is by grace, not our own doing that we have been saved through faith.

Dusting of snow
Mt Buffalo Vic 2015 L Osburn
Gracious and loving God we praise you and thank you not only that we have been saved but also that you continue to save us. You want to give us your gifts of love and freedom and peace. You want us to be holy, at peace and secure confident in your saving grace and blessings so that your glory, your power and your peace may be revealed to the world through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
