Psalms 89: 39 – 53
The psalm is about a descendant of David for whom
there has been losses in battle and destruction of the city and removal of the
office of King. It laments the withdrawal of the support and protection of God.
This is an appeal to God to remember the promises to David.
1 Chronicles 10: 1 – 11: 9
The Philistines and Saul’s army fight. Three of Saul’s
sons are killed and Saul is wounded. He asks his armour bearer to kill him so
that the enemy does not humiliate him. The armour-bearer refuses and Saul falls
on his own sword. The armour bearer kills himself.
The enemy displays Saul’s head. Faithful local people
come and retrieve Saul’s remains and those of his sons and bury them. Saul had
been unfaithful to God and had consulted a medium for guidance rather than the
Lord.
The people press David to be their king since he is
the anointed one.
Acts 2: 1 – 13
The Holy Spirit with the sound of a violent wind comes
to the disciples and others where they are gathered. Divided tongues of fire
rested on each person’s head. They begin speaking in other languages about
God’s deeds of power, which, people from all the parts of the Mediterranean can
understand. Most are perplexed asking, what can this mean? There were some who
just think they are drunk.

Prayer
Psalm 91
This psalm is one of reassurance and comfort about the
care and protection the faithful have from God. “For he will command his angels
concerning you to guard you in all your ways (v.11)”.
Deuteronomy 34
Moses goes up to Mount Nebo and sees the expanse of
The Promised Land. He dies there and is buried in the valley. Never has there
been a prophet like Moses who had as close communication and guidance from God
or done what he did.
1 Corinthians 14: 26 – 40
Paul requires the Corinthians to conduct their
gatherings is an orderly way. To only bring to the group those things that will
build and strengthen the group, to take turns, to listen and to leave questions
to private places so as not to disrupt.
