Psalm
85
The
psalm reminds us all of God’s forgiveness and historical evidence of restoring
people of faith. The psalmist asks for quiet to listen to God who will speak
peace to the faithful and give salvation. “Steadfast love and faithfulness will
meet; righteousness and peace will kiss each other” (v.10).
Luke
20: 39 – 47
Jesus queries the scribes
and asks how can the Messiah be David's son when in the psalms David calls the
Messiah his Lord? Then Jesus goes on to warn the disciples of those scribes who
require honour as they go about – to be greeted with respect, to get the best
seats in the synagogue and the best places at banquets but fail in their care
for widows and say long prayers to keep up appearances. They will receive
condemnation.

Prayer
Jeremiah
30: 1 –9
In
the next section Jeremiah is instructed by God to write a book and this begins
the recording of the consolations. The first is freedom from oppression and
that there will be a king from the Davidic line.
Psalm
111
Praise God for great deeds,
honour, majesty, enduring righteousness and mercy. God has sent us redemption.
Respecting God is the beginning of wisdom.
2 Timothy 2: 19 – 26
Paul
encourages Timothy to know that the foundation of the faith is secure. Timothy
is to be assured that the Lord knows who is the Lord’s and whoever comes humbly
has a role in ministry. Be gentle when correcting people so that it is easier
for them to come to the truth.

God of righteousness, mercy, majesty and honour you
know who belongs to you and you offer us freedom and consolation. Help us to
continue to be humble, guide us to deeper respect for you and enable us to read
your word so that we may receive your consolation, grow in wisdom and be the
ministers you made us to be now and in the days ahead through the power of your
Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
