Morning
Prayer
Psalm 27
“The Lord is my light and
salvation: whom shall I fear?” The
psalmist seeks God’s face, God’s teaching and God’s level path and ends with,
“Wait for the Lord: be strong and let your heart take courage: wait for the
Lord.”
Luke
20: 1– 18
Jesus
is teaching in the temple. The chief priests and scribes ask by what authority
he teaches. Jesus tells a parable of a rich man leaving a vineyard to tenants.
When the rent is due they stone or kills the landlord’s representative. The
landlord sends his son. They kill him. Jesus asks what will the landlord do?
Come remove the tenants and give it to others. Then he quotes scripture and
asks them to interpret it. At this point they know the parable is about them
and though angry, fear the response of the people if they lay hands on Jesus.

Holy and Almighty God in
you there is no fear. Open our hearts to seek you. Focus our minds to seek you.
Give us faith to believe that we will see your goodness and realize you are the
answer so that we have the courage to wait for you and be strong through the
power of your Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Evening
Prayer
Jeremiah 9: 12 – 16 and 23 –
24
Why
is the land about to be laid waste? It is because the people are stubborn of
heart and are not obeying God’s Law. They are following Baals.
If
anyone is to boast, let them boast about how they know God who exercises and
delights in kindness, justice and righteousness.
Psalm 113
This
is a psalm of praise to the Lord forever. What other God is there that raises
the poor from the dust and has them sit with the powerful and renowned? Who is
it that fulfils us like this God?
1 Timothy 3
For Paul, people in
authorised church roles need to be able to administer, to be of good standing,
serious. He sets these parameters to enable social acceptance of our church
that proclaims the great mystery of our faith.

God of mystery, God of
grace you are the source of justice, kindness, righteous and sustainability.
You know we are simultaneously learning your way, being stubborn, and offering
our thanks and praise. Only you can turn us around and turn the world around.
Keep us doing our tasks diligently and in good faith so that we, your hands and
feet on earth, earn social acceptance for your church and persevere with your
empowerment and your grace through your Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
