Morning Prayer
Psalm
80
This
psalm is a prayer for deliverance from national enemies. It compares Israel to
a vine. It asks for God’s hand to be on the one at God’s right hand, to give us
life, to restore us and to save us.
Colossians 3: 12 – 17
With fellow believers we are to
clothe ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience. We
are to bear with each other, forgive and bind to each other in love. We are to
let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, be thankful, teach with wisdom,
sing with gratitude and praise and do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus
Christ giving thanks to God through Him.

God of creation and restoration, you
care for us even when death and destruction surrounds us and when we are in
zones of war. Open our hearts to your message of deliverance. Help us to clothe
ourselves in compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience; bear with
each other, forgive and bind to each other in love; let the peace of Christ
rule in our hearts, be thankful, teach with wisdom, sing with gratitude and
praise, and do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Evening Prayer
Amos 9:
5 – 15
Amos reports God’s word,
this time saying that other nations too have been restored to their lands, not
just Israel. Israel is not to think itself too special. God will not utterly
destroy the house of Jacob. There will be a remnant from the house of David.
The good and righteous of
Israel will be captured, as pebbles in a sieve but the sand, those who do evil,
will be lost.
There will be a time in the
future where the reaping slows and ploughing overtakes it, when production
starts again and people can be free to drink the wine they produce for
themselves. Israel will be planted again and not leave their land.
Psalm
15
This psalm lists the
moral characteristics of people who are permitted in the temple. People who
tell the truth, care for their neighbour and behave ethically.
Luke
10: 17 – 24
When
the 70 disciples who Jesus sent out returned they do so joyfully – spirits and
demons submitted to their authority. Jesus tells them not to rejoice in their
capacities but that their names are now written in heaven. Jesus rejoices in
the Holy Spirit praises God and thanks him for the gift to the disciples, to
infants and hidden them from the wise and intelligent. Jesus claims his
authority and that he is the Son of God. Jesus blesses the disciples saying
that many wise people and kings sought to see and hear what they have
experienced and not been granted it. Indeed they are blessed.

Footprints of birds in the sand Mandurah Estuary WA L Osburn |
Holy and gracious Lord we give you
thanks and praise for all the gifts you give us through your Son and your Holy
Spirit. For the opportunity and ability to worship you in community, we give
you thanks and praise. For restoration of our countries and their peace and for
the time when the reaping and mourning is over we praise you. Grow us to not be
proud of our abilities but joyful and thankful for your grace. Help us be truth
tellers, good neighbours and ethical. Keep our knowledge of your care and faithfulness
strong so that we, infants though we are, can be part of your healing of the
world through the power of your Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
