Morning Prayer
Romans
8:2, 14, 15b – 19
Christ
who is the life-giving law of the Spirit has set us free. Being led by the
Spirit of God we can call the Father, Daddy. The Spirit lets us know we are
children of God and therefore heirs, fellow heirs with Christ. If we share
Christ’s sufferings now we will be glorified with Christ and whatever we
suffer, is nothing compared to the glory that will be revealed. All creation
waits eagerly for the glory of God to be revealed.
John
14: 12 – 29
Jesus
says those who believe will do greater things than him because he is going to
the Father. However, if we ask in Jesus’s name he will do what we ask so that
God can be glorified through him.
If we
love Christ we will receive the Advocate, the spirit of truth. Jesus tells the
disciples that he is leaving and going to the Father and that he is alive and
in the disciples and they in him. God will love those who keep Jesus’s
commandments and Jesus will be revealed to them. God with Christ will make
their home in them.
The
Advocate, the Holy Spirit will teach us and remind us what Jesus said. Jesus
gives his peace and reassures the disciples “Do not let your hearts be
troubled” (v. 27). If the disciples loved Jesus they would rejoice that he is
going to the Father.

Holy
wonderful God, you love us with a love that has no end. Help us today to say and
sing in a myriad of ways “I love you and that’s all I truly know”, through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Evening Prayer
Numbers
11: 24 – 30
When
the spirit is transferred people began to prophecy. Two who are among the
registered 70 are not at the tent of meeting but stay in the camp. The spirit
also comes on them and they prophesy too (though only once). A young man runs to Moses with this news.
Joshua is shocked and wants Moses to stop the two in the camp. Moses says that
he doesn’t own the gift of prophecy and that it would be great if everyone were
a prophet.
Psalm
103: 13 – 22
As
parents have compassion for their children so God has compassion for us. Our
lives are fleeting and short like a flower or like grass.
God’s
steadfast love is eternal. God is eternal and mighty. “Bless the Lord, O my
soul” (V.22).
Romans
8: 18 – 27
We live
lives that include suffering and decay. We hold out hope in release to eternal
life. Hope is not hope if we see that hope delivered. Hope is hope because the
thing hoped for cannot be seen. We wait patiently.
And the
spirit within us intercedes with God even when we cannot find the words to
pray. Our spirit intercedes in sighs too deep for words.

Generous compassionate and loving God
you heal us, forgive us and redeem us. You have given us your Holy Spirit. We
are living frail and impermanent lives subject to suffering and pain. Help us
to bless you deep within our souls and to hope for that which we cannot see so
that we and all creation, may one day be free forever with you through Jesus Christ our Lord and
Saviour. Amen.
