Morning Prayer
Psalm
135
This
psalm is a song of praise and thanksgiving to God. Calls upon the priestly
tribes of Israel to praise the Lord.
There
is a warning too, those who follow the idols of silver and gold will be like
them: have eyes yet not see, have ears yet not hear have mouths yet not breath.
Numbers
13: 1 – 3 and 17 – 19
Moses
sends one person from each of the twelve tribes to go beyond the Negev and see
what sort of land, cities and towns are there and to report back.
John
12: 20 – 33
Philip
asks Jesus to meet with some Greeks and Jesus responds that now is the time for
him to be glorified, fall, and die. He says that whoever loves their life shall
lose it, those that hate their life shall keep it for eternal life and, those
who follow Jesus will be with him and God will honour.
Jesus’s
soul is troubled and he prays for God’s name to be glorified. God replies in a
voice like thunder so that others know it is God.

Great and all-knowing God as Moses
sent scouts into the Promised Land and you sent your Son to us so that we could
be saved, send us out today in the power of Your Holy Spirit to do what is
pleasing to you, using eyes that truly see, ears that clearly hear and mouths
that speak your truth and, doing so glorify your name through Jesus Christ your
Son our Lord and the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Evening Prayer
Psalm 136
This
psalm proclaims God’s greatness and enduring love. Here we praise the
overwhelming, overflowing, generosity of God.
Exodus
32: 1 – 14
Moses
is up on the mountain and the people believe he is lost and they are
leaderless. They ask Aaron to lead and to make a God for them to follow. He
does so. They built a golden calf and worship it.
God
tells Moses to go down immediately and is angry and God would punish them for
the breaking of the covenant. Moses intercedes citing how many people and how
long it took to get here and, that all the promises God made that would now
have to be broken. God listens to Moses.
1
Corinthians 7: 12 – 24
Paul
encourages people to live peacefully as Christians even if their spouses do not
believe for the children will be holy. If the unbeliever separates from the
marriage – let it be. The believer is not bound. “It is to peace that God has
called you” (v.15).
We
are to be Christian in our current roles and positions, the way we are. We do
not have to make any bodily signs like circumcision. We have all been bought
for a price and that is Christ. So, no matter our position slave or free, man
or woman we are siblings in Christ.

Holy, almighty and loving God how
great is your love and patience with us! You forgive us again and again as we
come to you contrite and humble. You accept us as we are and build futures from
all of us. You know all our skills and abilities. Be with us now as we give
thanks for your everlasting love and care and for all your blessings this day
so that we experience your great gift of peace through Jesus Christ your Son
our Lord and the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
