Morning Prayer

Psalm 148

This psalm calls on every part of creation to praise and glorify God.

Wisdom 3: 1 – 9

The death of the righteous will seem to the ungodly to be a disaster. But they will be safe, visited by God and shine. Those who trust God will understand the truth and the faithful will be with God.

Hebrews 12: 18 – 24

To what are we racing? Is it to Mt Sinai and the Old Testament or to Mt Zion, the New Testament and saving grace of Christ? In the old, our sins require constant sacrifice. In the new Jesus has washed them away and is the perpetual sacrifice. We can choose our path.

Peace

Thanks and praise and honour and glory are yours our loving God. You have made it possible for us all to rest in your peace, love and new covenant. In this day when we remember all your faithful departed lift our hearts in gratitude to you for their precious time with us, and their eternal presence with you through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord and the power of your Holy Spirit in our hearts. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Psalm 145

This psalm praises and blesses God for all the great acts of creation, mercy, salvation, awesome acts, steadfast love, compassion, and might. What God has done proclaims the glory of the kingdom. That kingdom will endure forever.

On a more personal level God is faithful, gracious, upholds people while they are falling, raises up people who are oppressed. God provides as required, in time and with justice. God hears, saves and watches us. We will praise the Lord and all living things will bless God forever.

Isaiah 40: 28 – 31

Do you know? Haven’t you heard? God created everything and God never tires. God’s knowledge is unsearchable. God empowers and energises. Those who wait for God will be renewed: “they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint” (v. 31).

John 17: 18 – 23

Jesus makes the statement about the oneness of God and the Holy Spirit and himself. He asks for this knowledge and the spirit of truth to be spread throughout the world so that God may love all humanity in the same way that God loves Jesus and that Jesus may be with them as God is with them.
