He tells the story of Naomi and that her husband’s property and Ruth the wife of one of his sons can be redeemed. The next of kin cannot redeem the property without damaging his own inheritance so he tells Boaz to acquire it for himself and they seal the deal. Acts 3: 17 – 4: 4

Peter continues to talk to the crowds and explain that they were poorly informed when Christ was crucified. That Christ is the Messiah foretold by Moses and the prophets. The only path is to repent and to hope for the second coming. The priests, the captain of the temple and the Sadducees, annoyed that Peter and John are proclaiming the resurrection of the dead, arrest them and take them into custody. Meanwhile about five thousand people hear and believe.

God of grace and provision, you know the long-terms outcomes of all our actions – the honourable and the dreadful. And you can turn even those who were part of the crucifixion into your faithful, loved children. In all we do today keep us transparent and honest, even when we make errors so that we may be part of your plan for new beginnings and new futures for your glory and our salvation through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord and the power of your Holy Spirit in our hearts. Amen.

Evening Prayer

Psalm 150

The last psalm is of joyful and exuberant praise – instruments, dancing. “Let everything that breathes praise the Lord” (v6).

Isaiah 44: 1 – 8

God says that the Spirit will be poured out on a thirsty land so that the offspring of the people will commit to God and be blessed. This is the promise that God is about to do something new, forgive the people and change the world. They will not only survive the changes but prosper, be restored and commit themselves and their children to God.
There is one God and there is no other God but this one.

John 17: 17 – 26

Jesus makes the statement about the oneness of God and the Holy Spirit and himself. He asks for this knowledge and the spirit of truth to be spread throughout the world so that God may love all humanity in the same way that God loves Jesus and that Jesus may be with them as God is with them.
