Psalm 133
This is a psalm of rejoicing in family peace and
harmony.
Hebrews
2: 5 – 9
And as ancient scripture asks – who are humans that
God cares for us? Christ came, was made less than an angel and tasted bitter
death for everyone and is now crowned in glory and honour.

Genesis 14: 14 – 20
There is an alliance of four eastern kings who take
all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and also take Lot into captivity. An
escapee reports to Abram who gathers 318 fighters, successfully pursues the
invaders, retrieves Lot and all the goods looted from the cities. The King of
Sodom comes to meet Abram with King Melchizedek of Salem who blesses Abram in
the name of the God Most High and Blesses God for delivering victory into
Abram’s hand. Abram returns everything except what his men have eaten and fair
payment for them.
Psalm 24
The Lord of hosts is the King of glory, is the focus
of this psalm. The world and everything in it is God’s. Those who aspire to
heaven are the pure and righteous.
John 16: 16 – 24
Jesus tells the disciples that he will go away and not
be seen, then be seen again. The disciples are puzzled so he explains. When
Jesus goes the disciples will weep and the world will rejoice. But when he
returns the joy will overcome the grief (just like when a baby arrives the
mother forgets the pain of delivery). If the disciples ask anything of God in Jesus’s
name, it will be given. “Ask and you shall receive so your joy may be complete”
(v.24).

Most High God, full of glory, you have created us and know
everyone of us. You love us all. Be with us today: your faithful, your confused
and your warring people. Help us to focus on Jesus, act with integrity and
righteousness and bring all our concerns to you confident in your loving
response through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
